In intensively used grassland, there is an increasing acidification of the soil. There are many reasons for this, such as calcium removal by the harvested crop and leaching of cations. But fertilisation with liquid manure and mineral fertilisers also has an acidifying effect. This acidification of the soil has consequences. It

leads to a deterioration of the soil structure,
reduces the availability of important nutrients,
inhibits soil organisms and thus
leads to a reduction in yield.

A lime fertiliser has a positive effect on the soil structure. It increases the porosity and water storage capacity of the soil and raises the pH value.
